paul rote Incredible solo project by Maurice Eggenschwiler of Blues Funeral. Very relaxing, highly skilled and focused. Seventies prog slightly mixed with modern prog like Opeth . Favorite track: Fallen Sun.

Rock Man (Dave Proger) About the only flaw I can find with this solo Album/Project from Maurice is it's too DAMN short... lol Other than that it's frickin' great!!! Favorite track: Painted Gray.

Fallen Sun 02:59
Cold stone Shallow mound Final breath in the fog Dark Blind Beholden to a fallen sun Red eyes Piercing Unable to rid this embrace Black tide Black tide Black tide Black tide Dark Blind Beholden to a fallen sun Blank shape Stands firm An emblem, to stand In my place

Roaming through halls So dark, but entrancing Archways of leaves Envelope my gaze Tranquility Bold and arresting Deeper it seems Present yet lost Ground moves Static frame Sunlight Blinding Voices Echo faint Pulsing Winding Circles flicker On silent water Reflections of me Blur and then fade Restlessness brews Beneath the ripples Beckoning me From out of the shade Ground moves Static frame Sunlight Blinding Voices Echo faint Pulsing Winding Every stone Can break and weather Even the oak Spills sap when severed Flowers will bloom Then loll when forgotten Hallways of green Painful and treasured

Painted Gray 06:13
Stoic figures that speak in blue shades, Reside in spaces between the years Quiet verses in language unknown, Cascading through me, poems of fear, Ink-stained parchment, sharp edges now worn, The words so obscured, they call to me Candles flicker from depths far within, Revealing faces no longer known Seasons all painted gray, Falling into the fray, Gasping for another breath, Find me sunlight, Jet-black ravens, like spires in the sky, Repeating the cries of ghosts lost in time, Crack-filled tombstones in rows through the field, An orchard of death, now vibrant and fresh, Weeping willow, an onyx bouquet, Obscuring the pond, reflects beyond, Swirling matter becomes corporeal, Assumes shapes so real I fall, I drown Seasons all painted gray Falling into the fray, Gasping for another breath, Find me sunlight.
4.
Seldom traveled dirt road Trembling with every step Clouds glide mysteriously Shapes form and quickly fade Fierce wind gathers Each grain scattered Frozen still, like stars in the void Distant memories appear Nightmares on wings of dust Rose thorns stained on each tip Beauty in every sting Fierce wind gathers Each grain scatted Frozen still, like starts in the void Steady beating inside Feeding this acrid fruit Poison creeps and sets in Dreamscapes obsidian

Finding peace within the moments, Hour hands lay still, I breathe Far beyond the window’s outline, A mirage glimmers, I run Rising, Spiraling, Paint that streams, Down the canvas here, Cool scenes, Do appear, Hand that moves, Gripped by something more Statue hides in solid marble, Sculptor’s hands chisel, I bleed, Peer inside a gaping chasm, A well run dry, barren, I thirst, Wanting, Yearning, Heart cries out, Free these chains that bind, Passion, Torture, Pierce the soul, Gripped by something more, I close my eyes, I hear the cries, I long inside, I shed my pride, I touch the earth, Flowers sprout from dirt, Walking, Tracing, Open fields, Lush air returns, Cool scenes do appear, Hand that moves, Gripped by something more

about

Blurred Reflections is a solo project featuring Maurice Eggenschwiler of Blues Funeral and Santcus Bellum that was spawned during quarantine, fulfilling a longstanding desire to explore this type of musical terrain.

The name, Blurred Reflections, is as much a comment on the music and its incorporation of progressive, jazz, and at times heavier elements as it is a rumination over the lyrical content.

Blurred Reflections examines our relationship with nature, the musical mind, past failure, introspection, and the strength of the individual.

Musically, the songs draw inspiration from bands like: Opeth, Anekdoten, Steven Wilson, Al DiMeola, Camel, and King Crimson which all are crucial influences for Maurice.

The instrumentation includes elements like piano, mellotron, organ, steel string and nylon acoustic guitar, as well as electric guitar.

These songs were written and recorded between April and June 2020 by Maurice Eggenschwiler in his home studio.
